How to Spot Emerald Cut Diamonds

January 27, 2012

If you are thinking of buying an emerald diamond engagement ring, it is important that you know the characteristics of the cut. Emerald-cut diamonds are considered beautiful whether they are set as a solitaire or amidst accent stones. This cut is distinguishable from others because of the steps that were specially cut along the stones’ facets to allow the viewer to look into the diamond itself and marvel at its flawlessness and clarity. Because the emerald cut was not made to reflect maximum amount of light, it is imperative that the diamond is of the highest quality. Emerald cut diamonds are usually rectangular in shape with slightly smoothened edges. The top of the diamond is a flat plane wherein the inside of the stone can be seen clearly. To the untrained eye, the emerald cut looks every much similar to the Asscher cut. However, it is important to remember that emerald diamonds are not as deeply cut as an Asscher.
